THE SHOP - who we are...

THE SHOP was founded in the Spring of 2011 by Producing Artistic Director, Paul Takacs and Producing Director, Midori Harris in New York City.

THE SHOP - our history...

Our first production was LOVE IN TRANSIT, a new work by emerging Dutch playwright, Judith Goudsmit, in New York at the Red Room in late July of 2011. Since then we have been responsible for the US premieres of Philip Ridley's TENDER NAPALM in 2012, Jon Fosse's I AM THE WIND in 2014, as well as the New York premieres of Philip Ridley's DARK VANILLA JUNGLE and TONIGHT WITH DONNY STIXX in 2016 (in conjunction with Los Angeles' FERMENT THEATRE). Most recently, we were responsible for the New York premiere of, Scottish playwright, David Harrower's seminal work KNIVES IN HENS in the fall of 2017.

THE SHOP - our mission...

THE SHOP presents extraordinary contemporary theatrical works in intimate settings that immediately and instinctually engage audiences with narratives defined by richly drawn characters, singular language, and unique explorations of the human condition. We are a boutique theatrical enterprise, presenting big ideas in small spaces, allowing audiences to get “up close and personal” with the work. We believe in a spare aesthetic that strips away superfluous artifice, distilling the characters and their journeys to nuanced, yet unvarnished and intimate presentations.
